Q : What gave you want to play music? And specially garage rock ? I'd always been interested in music when I was a kid. My friends elder brother played guitar, and I was really fascinated by it.
I like beer, but I'm not very good at drinking. If I start drinking I usually don't make it home until the next morning, and then I spend the next day throwing up. Shinchan(the drummer) loves beer. When we toured Europe earlier this year he was drinking beer from the moment he woke up until the moment he slept everyday.
Q : More seriously, what is you favorite artist and your favorite album? Current favourite artist is Ox Haxixins, and their album Under The Stones is the best album I've bought in years. It's so good it makes me want to give up music! As for old music, there are too many albums for me to single one out. Future by the Seeds gets played alot. This week it's the 13th Floor Elevators box set that's dominating my turntable.
Q : You live in Japan, is there a big garage rock culture? Where we live there is no garage rock culture, and no scene. We live in the middle of nowhere. There are three other bands near us, The Paralyz (coming soon on Groovie Records), La-La Lee's, and Whys (surf band).
Q : How you and the Routes do to sounds like in the 60’s? That's a difficult one.I haven't really thought about it. We use a lot of vintage equipment, but I don't think it is necessary to use that stuff to get a good 60's sound. I guess it's all down to raw simple DIY recording, and the simplicity of the songs.
Q : I listened to your last album, “Alligator”, still so good. It must be exciting to release and make an album, how do you manage this creation with its problems and its good times? Making Alligator was like enjoyable torture. It took so long. Shinchan and I wrote and worked on the songs for almost a year. We originally recorded most of the album in a professional studio, but it just didn't sound anything like what I wanted to hear, so we abandoned it and started again, recording ourselves. Once Shinchan and I recorded the basis, I started to work on the recordings daily. There was a lot of trial and error to get it the way we wanted. Playing organ was really hard, because I can't play organ at all. I was learning chords/parts by ear, practising for days and then recording. As soon as we finished recording the album Kakizoe joined the band on bass, so we had to re-record the bass with him. By the time we got around to mixing etc, I was totally sick of hearing the songs.
Q : How the album was received in Japan? And in the world? Hmmm... In Japan nothing. If we were making music for consumption in Japan, we wouldn't look/sound the way we do. In Europe we managed to sell many albums and got really good reviews. We enjoyed a brief tour in April.
Q : Do you have good relations with other garage rock bands? Do you share gigs? As far as Japan goes we have very good relationships with the 3 or 4 bands near us. We don't really play outside of our area, and we're not really involved in any scenes or circles.
Q : I thank you a lot Christopher Jack to answered to my questions, I have a last little question… when… when could I… when could I see you in concert in France ?? You could have seen us in Paris in April ;-p
